King Charles Visits High Court Before Prince Harry’s Hacking Case Ruling

King Charles surprised onlookers at the High Court in London on Thursday, dropping in just a day before the crucial ruling in his son Prince Harry’s lawsuit against a tabloid newspaper publisher.

The royal family shared photos of the King’s visit, highlighting his purpose: to celebrate the work of the judiciary and their commitment to upholding the law. Hosted by the Lady Chief Justice, Baroness Carr, the first woman to hold this position, Charles viewed an exhibit showcasing “Pioneering Women Judges” who paved the way for future generations.

But the King’s visit wasn’t just about history. He also surprised students participating in a mock trial and met with volunteer magistrates who dedicate their time to the justice system.

“I’d like to thank you all enormously for your efforts in maintaining our justice system,” the King told the court staff, “something many around the world admire. I cannot thank you enough.”

This visit comes at a particularly significant time for the royal family, as Prince Harry’s phone-hacking lawsuit is set to be decided on Friday. Harry, who made history as the first senior royal to testify in court in 130 years, is suing the publisher of the Mirror Group Newspapers (MGN) over allegations of illegal phone tapping.

The King’s visit, while focused on the judiciary, also subtly underscores the importance of the legal proceedings facing Harry. It demonstrates the family’s respect for the law and their anticipation for the forthcoming ruling.
