Matthew Perry’s family, led by his stepfather Keith Morrison, have made an impassioned appeal to fans, asking for their support for a cause close to the late actor’s heart. Morrison, 76, took to X (formerly Twitter) to deliver a heartfelt message Tuesday, urging support for the Matthew Perry Foundation.
In a departure from his usual communication style, Morrison expressed the unusual nature of the request, highlighting the importance of the cause. He encouraged people to contribute whatever they could, stressing that Matthew Perry would have deeply appreciated their support.
After the Friends alum died in October, his family immediately set up the Matthew Perry Foundation, whose primary mission is to help people suffering from addiction. In a statement to PEOPLE, Matthew’s family emphasized the organization’s important role in carrying on his legacy and making a positive impact on those affected by the disease.
The move is in line with Matthew Perry’s own sentiments expressed in an earlier interview on the Q with Tom Power podcast. In the interview, Perry expressed his desire to be remembered not only for his iconic role as Chandler Bing on Friends but as someone who lived well, loved well, and Research has been adopted.

“The best thing about me,” he said, “is if someone comes up to me and says, ‘I can’t stop drinking. Can you help me?’ I can say yes and follow up. That’s what I want.”
