iOS 17 Beta 2 Code Hints at Apple’s Affordable Vision Spatial Computer
Rumors of a more budget-friendly version of Apple’s Vision Pro are gaining traction, as code discovered in iOS 17 beta 2 suggests a variant with some corners cut to reduce the price.
Originally referred to as Vision Pro, recent code changes now simply label the device as Vision, signaling a potential shift in Apple’s spatial computer lineup.
9to5Mac highlighted altered code strings in the App Store, previously mentioning “Mac, iPad, and Apple Vision Pro Apps,” now reading “Mac, iPad, and Apple Vision Apps.” This tweak could signify Apple’s preparations for a more economical Vision model. Interestingly, the online Apple Store tab for the spatial computer is named Vision, omitting the “Pro” designation.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the anticipated price range for the budget-friendly Apple Vision could fall between $1,500 and $2,500.
Speculations suggest potential cost-cutting measures, such as eliminating the EyeSight feature, which gauges a user’s emotions by displaying their eyes to onlookers.
Additional cost-saving features might involve lower-resolution displays and opting for an Apple A-series iPhone processor instead of the high-powered M-series Mac processor found in the Vision Pro, boasting the M2 chipset and R1 co-processor. If Apple is indeed developing the more affordable Apple Vision, its release may be expected around 2025.
Enthusiasts speculate that the Vision Pro could pave the way for Apple Glass, envisioned as the successor to the iPhone. Apple Glass is conceptualized as a pair of ordinary spectacles with Augmented Reality (AR) capabilities, similar to the now-discontinued Google Glass.
