Microsoft’s Notepad gets spellcheck and autocorrect

More than four decades after the simple text editor was initially offered in Windows in 1983, Microsoft has finally implemented spellcheck and autocorrect for its Notepad app in Windows 11. This comes after the software was first introduced in Windows. During the month of March, the software giant began testing both capabilities, and in recent days, it has discreetly begun making them available to all users of Windows 11.

The spellcheck function in Notepad is almost analogous to the way that Word or Edge highlight misspell words, with a red underline to make the errors more obvious. When you right-click on a misspell word in Notepad, the spelling sub menu does not automatically expand like it does in Microsoft Word. As a result, you have to click again in order to get a list of proper spellings. This is why I say that it is virtually identical.

It is peculiar that Microsoft has not fully embraced the way spellcheck operates in Word, especially considering that the business demonstrated the capability to right-click and instantaneously pick the correction in Notepad during the beta testing period of the product. When Microsoft Word was first released in 1985, it was known as Multi-Tool Word for Xenia and MS-DOS computers.

At that time, the spellcheck function was integrated into the programed. Notepad, which was initially developed by Microsoft in 1983 and was initially named as Multi-Tool Notepad, was initially intended to be a simplified version of World Wide Word.

When using Notepad for Windows 11, you have the ability to enable or disable spellcheck according on the type of file you are working with. For example, if you do not want to see corrections in files such as.md,.srt,.lrc, or.lic, you may toggle these options in the settings menu. Additionally, the spellcheck feature is automatically deactivated in log files and other file formats that are connected with coding. Autocorrect is another feature that Microsoft has added to Notepad. This feature ensures that any typos are automatically repaired when the spellcheck feature is used. In the options of Notepad, you also have the option to disable autocorrect.

Just in time for the firm to remove the built-in Word Pad programmed from Windows 11 later this year, Microsoft has been gradually adding more and more functionality to its Notepad software for Windows 11. This is just in time for the company to make the decision. The character count, dark mode, tabs, interaction with Copilot, and even a virtual fidget spinner are all new features that have been added to Notepad.
